Privacy policy
Last updated 22 October 2026
This policy explains what the DadaKada app collects, why, who else handles it, and how you can delete it. DadaKada is made by Anamol Shrestha. Questions: support@dadakada.app.
- No ads, no analytics or tracking tools, and we never sell your data.
- Your location is used only while you use the app, and in the background only while you are recording a hike you started.
- Your recordings are private unless you choose to share them.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app.
Using the app without an account
You can browse treks, routes, parks and the map without signing in. Nothing you do is linked to you. Recording a hike and downloading offline maps need an account.
What we collect, and why
Your account
You sign in with Apple or Google. From them we receive your email address and, if you allow it, your name. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we only see a relay address. You can also set a display name, which other people see next to anything you share. We use your account to keep your recordings and contributions together and to bring them back if you change phones.
Location
The app uses your phone’s location to show where you are on the map and on the trail. When you start recording a hike, it keeps recording in the background until you stop, and your phone shows that location is in use. It does not use your location at any other time.
A recording (the points of your track, with times, accuracy and GPS altitude, its distance and duration) is saved on your phone first. When you are signed in and online, it is also saved to your account so it is backed up. Each recording is private unless you choose to show it to your followers or to everyone. You can export a recording as a GPX file at any time.
Photos
DadaKada only gets the photos you pick. Before keeping a photo, the app removes its location, camera and date details. Photos you add to a recording, post, trail report or route are uploaded to your account and are seen by the same people who can see what you added them to. On mobile data, photos wait for Wi-Fi unless you allow otherwise.
What you share with other hikers
Posts, trail condition reports, comments, reactions, reviews, lists, routes you submit, corrections to trail data, who you follow and block, and content you report are stored with your account. Trail condition reports are public. Other people see your display name next to what you share.
Trek assistant
When you use the assistant, the messages you type are sent to our server and passed through Vercel’s AI Gateway to an AI model provider (currently Alibaba’s Qwen models) to write the reply. Your location and recordings are not sent. We do not store your conversations on our servers. The app sends a random number that is not linked to you or your account, only to limit how many messages one phone can send. Please don’t put personal details in your messages.
Maps, weather and app updates
To show maps, weather and updates, the app loads data from other services. Like any website, they see your IP address and what was requested (for example, which part of the map you are looking at), but not who you are:
- Offline map downloads come from our storage on Cloudflare.
- The online map comes from OpenFreeMap; terrain and elevation from Mapterhorn and Amazon Web Services.
- Weather comes from Open-Meteo. The app sends the coordinates of points on the trail you are looking at, not your own position.
- The app checks Expo for app updates, sending the app version and platform.
Trail alerts and the lock-screen view of your hike are created on your phone; no server sends them.
Server logs
Our servers keep short-lived logs of requests (time, address requested, result and errors, which can include your IP address) to fix problems and stop abuse.
Who handles your data
We use these services to run DadaKada. They process data only to provide their service.
| Service | What it does for DadaKada |
|---|---|
| Clerk | Sign-in and accounts |
| Apple, Google | Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google |
| Supabase | Database for your recordings and contributions |
| Cloudflare | Our servers, photo storage, offline map downloads, server logs |
| Vercel AI Gateway and the AI model provider | Replies from the trek assistant |
| Expo | App updates |
| OpenFreeMap, Mapterhorn, Amazon Web Services, Open-Meteo | Map tiles, terrain and weather (see above) |
These services may store data outside Nepal and outside your own country. While DadaKada is in beta on TestFlight, Apple also shares with us crash reports and any feedback you choose to send through TestFlight.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it
We keep your data until you delete it or your account. To delete your account, open the app, go to your account and choose Delete account. This deletes your profile, recordings, photos, posts, comments, reactions, reviews, lists, routes, follows and blocks from our servers, and your sign-in account. Data saved on your phone is removed when you delete the app. Server logs expire on their own.
Your choices and rights
You can see, export and delete your recordings in the app. You can ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, by writing to support@dadakada.app. You can turn off location or photo access at any time in your phone’s settings.
Children
DadaKada is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is important.
